Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Platform — California Remote

Lead the formation of Discord’s Enterprise Platform engineering function. Build self-service identity, device management, and infrastructure automation for a large-scale gaming community platform.

Description

  • Establish the Enterprise Platform discipline and its technical foundation.
  • Convert enterprise infrastructure into self-service software.
  • Replace manual consoles and support tickets with reusable platform primitives, APIs, and self-service portals.
  • Operate device fleets through versioned, API-driven endpoint management and hardware-provisioning infrastructure.
  • Manage identity systems and connected applications as code, including SSO, SCIM, and account lifecycle workflows.
  • Develop deployment pipelines and infrastructure-as-code provisioning patterns.
  • Set engineering standards for continuous integration and delivery.
  • Build APIs, command-line tools, and portals that enable automated, auditable workflows.
  • Set technical direction and shape platform architecture.
  • Produce RFCs and documentation to support future engineering hires.

Requirements

  • At least six years of experience building and operating production software and systems at a technology company.
  • Demonstrated ownership of ambiguous projects from initial definition through delivery.
  • Strong foundations in software engineering.
  • Ability to write, design, test, and release production code.
  • Proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and Rust.
  • Extensive hands-on IAM experience, including SSO, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, and RBAC.
  • Strong command of infrastructure as code, particularly Terraform.
  • Strong command of CI/CD practices.
  • Experience engineering API-driven endpoint and fleet management systems at scale.
  • A platform-as-a-product approach to engineering.
  • Experience creating self-service tools that users voluntarily adopted.
  • Comfort working through ambiguity with a founder’s mindset.
  • Hands-on experience with Okta, Jamf, or Intune is a bonus.
  • Experience governing identity and access for non-human, workload, or AI-agent principals is a bonus.
  • Experience at a high-growth consumer technology company serving a highly technical employee base is a bonus.
