Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform (Rust) — Hercules, San Francisco Hybrid
Lead development of Hercules’ AI platform-as-a-service as a Staff Software Engineer. Build Rust-based data systems, APIs, SDKs, and scalable infrastructure for customer applications.
Description
- Lead engineering for Hercules’ platform-as-a-service
- Create the Hercules Database, an enterprise-grade object model with flexible schemas and fine-grained access controls
- Develop a high-performance, scalable backend-as-a-service integrated with the Hercules Database
- Design APIs and SDKs that enable AI agents to build on the platform
- Optimize systems for low latency, high throughput, and efficient resource utilization
- Build and operate dependable infrastructure supporting customer applications
- Strengthen tenant isolation, observability, and resilience against failures
- Use Hercules’ technologies, cloud platforms, and AI models, including TypeScript, React, Postgres, Redis, ClickHouse, Docker, AWS, Cloudflare, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google models
Requirements
- Staff-level experience in platform engineering
- Strong software engineering fundamentals across system design, architecture, data modeling, and API design
- Ability to produce clean, maintainable code and collaborate effectively in monorepos
- Professional Rust experience developing efficient, reliable production systems
- Working knowledge of data systems, including indexing, query performance, transactions, and consistency
- Experience scaling large, data-intensive, multi-tenant distributed services
- Ability to improve latency, throughput, and resource efficiency
- Ability to use AI coding tools to substantially accelerate development
- Willingness to work in US time zones if remote
- Willingness to travel regularly to the San Francisco office if remote
