Software Engineer, API Platform at Horizon3.ai (Remote - United States)

Build Go-based API infrastructure for Horizon3.ai’s NodeZero autonomous cybersecurity platform. Own gateways, service contracts, reliability tooling, and shared APIs that support security integrations.

Description

  • Develop and maintain Go API endpoints, middleware, and platform services
  • Expand the API gateway with routing, authentication, rate limiting, and request/response transformation
  • Define and maintain API contracts with OpenAPI and gRPC
  • Notify internal consumers about breaking API changes
  • Improve platform API reliability through monitoring, alerting, SLA tracking, and incident response
  • Produce readable, reviewable code with tests for successful and failure scenarios
  • Partner with the Data Ingestion, Integrations Platform, and Client Platform teams
  • Develop the internal API layer linking NodeZero services with customer and integration interfaces
  • Contribute to API consolidation, versioning, rate limiting, and observability initiatives
  • Report to the API Platform Engineering Manager

Requirements

  • At least two years of professional experience developing production backend services
  • Proficiency in Go, or a strong ability and willingness to become productive quickly; Go is the primary language
  • Strong understanding of REST API design and HTTP semantics
  • Ability to evaluate latency, error rates, retry behavior, and circuit-breaking strategies
  • Experience working in Kubernetes environments, including deployment, debugging, and service interaction analysis
  • Experience with Docker-based containerized development workflows
  • Familiarity with OAuth 2.0, API key, and JWT authentication patterns
  • Ability to write clear, reviewable code supported by meaningful tests
  • Willingness to raise blockers early and seek assistance when needed
  • Comfort working asynchronously with a distributed team
  • Experience with gRPC is beneficial
  • Experience with API gateways such as Kong, Envoy, NGINX, or comparable cloud-native technologies is beneficial
  • Exposure to service mesh platforms such as Istio or Linkerd is beneficial
  • Cybersecurity experience or experience developing APIs used by security tools is beneficial
  • Experience with gRPC and protobuf-based service contracts is beneficial
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% if required
