Senior Optical Engineering Specialist – Fort Wayne Onsite

Senior optical engineering role focused on testing, aligning, and inspecting aerospace imaging systems from UV through LWIR. Supports hands-on laboratory engineering and optical design work onsite in Fort Wayne.

Description

  • Test and align complex optical systems in a laboratory setting
  • Work with multidisciplinary teams to deliver project objectives
  • Coordinate assigned tasks and maintain technical documentation
  • Record processes, communicate technical information, and support effective collaboration
  • Troubleshoot systems and verify requirements for compliance and performance
  • Apply hands-on testing to support optical design and modeling activities
  • Receive, clean, and inspect optical components
  • Contribute practical laboratory findings to system trade studies and vendor evaluations
  • Support onsite aerospace programs using imaging systems across UV to LWIR

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 6 years of relevant experience, a graduate degree with at least 4 years of related experience, or at least 10 years of related experience in place of a degree
  • At least 4 years of hands-on experience aligning, testing, and inspecting optical systems, preferably remote-sensing infrared and visible space-qualified systems
  • Experience using Zemax and/or Code V for optical design and analysis
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret security clearance
  • Preferred: Experience using MATLAB for data analysis and test-process automation
  • Preferred: Familiarity with FRED or comparable stray-light analysis software
  • Preferred: Experience designing and manufacturing metalenses
  • Preferred: Experience applying generative AI to optical-system analysis
  • Preferred: Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
