Senior Finance Manager, India (Hybrid)

Lead Mitti Labs’ in-house finance function across India and the US. Oversee payroll, month-end close, compliance, controls, forecasting, and finance operations supporting international expansion.

Description

  • Establish the in-house finance function from the ground up
  • Manage US and India payroll, coordinating employee joiners, leavers, and changes with the HR Manager
  • Oversee payments to tens of thousands of farmers, ensuring accurate records, reconciled payouts, and a complete audit trail
  • Manage customer invoicing, collections, third-party invoices, payment runs, and grant-funding reporting
  • Manage banking relationships and online banking portals
  • Reconcile and close the monthly books for US and Indian entities
  • Lead preparation for and execution of annual statutory audits
  • Coordinate external chartered accountants, auditors, and tax specialists
  • Maintain dependable financial data for forecasting, variance analysis, and unit economics
  • Classify transactions by cost category and tag spending to farming seasons and credit vintages
  • Assume increasing responsibility for forecasting, cash and runway planning, strategic modelling, and board and investor reporting
  • Complete US and India tax and regulatory filings, including GST, TDS, and RBI/FEMA submissions
  • Manage finance and payroll platforms while implementing financial controls
  • Review expenses and reimbursements, introduce company cards, and assess reimbursement policies and software spending
  • Automate and document finance processes
  • Manage intercompany reconciliations, transfer pricing, and treasury between US and Indian entities
  • Establish accounting records and finance processes for new entities in the Philippines and broader Southeast Asia
  • Recruit and manage a Finance Assistant as the finance function expands

Requirements

  • Bring 7–10+ years of experience in finance operations, controllership, or accounting, including experience leading finance at a startup or scale-up
  • Have hands-on experience with India payroll, monthly close, and statutory filings, including GST, TDS, and RBI/FEMA compliance
  • Have experience supporting a US entity, including US payroll, US book close, and collaboration with US tax advisors
  • Understand intercompany accounting and transfer pricing between a US parent and an Indian subsidiary
  • Demonstrate experience managing external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors to meet deadlines
  • Recognize unusual or inconsistent patterns in financial accounts through strong accounting judgment
  • Be confident using accounting and payroll software such as Zoho Books, along with advanced Excel or Google Sheets
  • Be fluent in English
  • Hold a professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent; strongly preferred
  • Have experience establishing finance operations for new Southeast Asian entities; strongly preferred
  • Bring FP&A experience in forecast modelling, variance analysis, or unit economics; strongly preferred
  • Have experience implementing company cards, expense tools, or payroll systems; strongly preferred
  • Have experience in agriculture, climate, carbon markets, or businesses processing large volumes of small payments to individuals; strongly preferred
  • Have experience building and managing a small finance team; strongly preferred
