Senior Cyber Systems Engineer - San Diego Hybrid

Lead cybersecurity engineering, RMF, ATO, and DevSecOps for Innovative Defense Technologies’ U.S. Navy defense systems. This full-time hybrid role is based in San Diego and supports government-facility operations.

Description

  • Design and implement secure, high-performance architectures for autonomous systems, AI-enabled platforms, and edge-computing devices
  • Integrate automated SAST, DAST, IAST, and SRM security gates into CI/CD pipelines
  • Drive the shift from static RMF cycles to Continuous Authority to Operate through automated control verification and ongoing monitoring
  • Design secure multi-tenant environments with Type 1 hypervisors and Kubernetes for IL5 and IL6 mission systems
  • Engineer ICAM capabilities that apply Zero Trust principles across distributed hardware and software nodes
  • Direct RMF activities spanning categorization, control selection, implementation, assessment, authorization, and continuous monitoring
  • Create and maintain RMF documentation, including SSPs, SARs, SAPs, POA&Ms, inventories, architecture diagrams, and monitoring records
  • Coordinate with U.S. Navy Authorizing Officials, Security Control Assessors, ISSMs, ISSOs, and Program Managers
  • Handle server updates, patching, software installation, ACAS scanning, and STIG checklist submissions
  • Administer cybersecurity authorization packages and support ATO, IATT, and IATO processes
  • Establish access-control policies, address vulnerabilities, and document POA&Ms
  • Partner with developers and engineers to uphold security processes, compliance requirements, and appropriate user access
  • Build and maintain golden operating system images and virtual machines
  • Prepare detailed system and network documentation for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Oversee local IDT network infrastructure and network expansion initiatives
  • Act as ISSM for product ATOs and, when required, IDT infrastructure networks and supported products
  • Represent IDT onsite with DCSA and other government organizations as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information assurance, computer science, information technology, or equivalent full-time professional experience
  • DoD 8570/8140 IAM Level III certification, such as CISSP or CISM
  • At least 10 years of cybersecurity or systems engineering experience within the Defense Industrial Base, including advanced RMF expertise
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% as needed
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. security clearance
  • Experience with Department of the Navy RAISE 2.0, Navy DevSecOps platforms, ACS and CANES architectures, CI/CD pipelines, automated STIG compliance, SAST/DAST, vulnerability remediation, and container hardening
  • Expertise with OCI-compliant containers, Docker, Kubernetes, network policies, service meshes, and runtime security
  • Substantial experience with server virtualization, including ESXi and KVM, and desktop virtualization through VDI
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Ansible, or CloudFormation
  • Experience with ACAS/Nessus and SCAP, including integrating security data into eMASS
  • Experience configuring authentication methods and applying PKI concepts
  • Experience identifying hardware and software purchases for varied use cases
  • Experience with Ansible, PowerShell, Chef, Salt, Puppet, or comparable configuration automation tools
