Senior AWS DevOps Engineer — United States Remote

Centex Technologies is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to build secure AWS infrastructure and CI/CD for its Air Force Data Mesh Environment. The role focuses on cloud automation, platform reliability, and DevSecOps controls.

Description

  • Own and improve infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and cloud deployment patterns for DME/ACDC application stacks
  • Develop and maintain Terraform modules and environment pipelines for AWS workloads across non-production and production-like environments
  • Build and secure GitLab CI/CD workflows for infrastructure plans, applies, image publishing, and controlled releases
  • Configure CI runners, credentials, role assumption, and environment promotion processes
  • Collaborate with application engineers to operate Node.js, React, and backend services reliably on AWS
  • Manage ECS task definitions, autoscaling, service lifecycles, secrets, configuration, observability, and safe restart and redeployment processes
  • Improve platform reliability and cost efficiency with automation such as environment park and wake schedules and inventory-based start and stop tooling
  • Integrate security into delivery through least-privilege IAM, permissions boundaries, secure container and pipeline defaults, secret management, and compliance-focused GovCloud and elevated-environment practices
  • Lead incident response and change support for infrastructure and pipeline failures
  • Investigate Terraform state issues, CI failures, and AWS runtime problems, then deliver lasting fixes
  • Advance engineering practices through reusable modules, documented runbooks, reviewable infrastructure standards, and DevOps and DevSecOps mentorship
  • Review infrastructure, CI, and deployment merge requests for quality, security, and operational readiness before approval
  • Support the Air Force Data Mesh Environment and Cloud One mission by enabling secure, scalable data discovery, access, interoperability, and distributed data operations

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Eligibility to obtain a DoW (formerly DoD) Active Secret clearance
  • At least six years of experience in DevOps, DevSecOps, SRE, or platform engineering for production cloud applications, or equivalent depth demonstrating ownership of CI/CD and cloud infrastructure
  • Practical experience designing and operating AWS workloads with Terraform, including multi-environment variable files, remote state, modules, and controlled plan and apply workflows
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized services with ECS or transferable EKS/Kubernetes experience covering task or service definitions, autoscaling, and rollout practices
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining GitLab CI pipelines or comparable delivery pipelines with secrets, OIDC or role assumption, and environment-based promotion
  • A practical DevSecOps approach covering least-privilege IAM, secure pipeline design, secret management, and build and deployment hardening
  • Ability to partner with application teams, turn operational needs into automation, and communicate clearly in design reviews and merge-request feedback
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot failed pipelines, Terraform drift or apply errors, and AWS runtime incidents under time pressure
  • Experience with AWS GovCloud or DoD, Cloud One, or IL4–IL6 environments and controls is preferred
  • Experience with API gateways, ICAM or AuthN/AuthZ platforms, and policy engines is preferred
  • Experience with FinOps and cloud cost-control automation is preferred
  • Experience building and hardening Docker images and using ECR or comparable registries is preferred
  • Experience with Systems Manager, EventBridge scheduling patterns, and App Auto Scaling for ECS is preferred
  • Experience integrating SonarQube or other automated quality and security scanning into CI is preferred
  • Experience creating environment factories or bootstrap modules is preferred
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance
