Senior Android Engineer, Authentication and Identity at Barclays

Build secure Android authentication and identity capabilities for Barclays’ mobile banking app. Work with hybrid teams in Knutsford or London on biometric, passwordless, and IAM integrations.

Description

  • Design and improve software supporting business, platform, and technology capabilities
  • Deliver scalable, maintainable, high-performing software solutions
  • Partner with product managers, designers, engineers, backend specialists, security experts, and UX teams
  • Define requirements and solution strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Contribute to code reviews, quality standards, and knowledge sharing
  • Develop native Android authentication and identity features for Barclays’ mobile banking app
  • Apply biometric authentication, Android Keystore, modern Kotlin, and AI-assisted development practices
  • Use secure coding methods to protect sensitive data and reduce vulnerabilities
  • Write unit tests that support readable, reliable code design
  • Monitor technology developments and participate in technology communities
  • Advise stakeholders and senior leaders on functional and cross-functional impacts
  • Manage risks, mitigate exposures, and strengthen controls
  • Develop solutions through detailed analysis, research, and evaluation of complex alternatives
  • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Set technical direction, lead collaborative work, and coach less experienced specialists when appropriate

Requirements

  • Extensive Android development experience with Kotlin, Java, Android SDK, Jetpack, and modern architecture components
  • Strong knowledge of IAM concepts, OAuth2, OIDC, and Android integrations with IAM backend services through SDKs and REST APIs
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and debugging
  • Hands-on experience with MVVM or Clean Architecture, Dagger or Hilt, coroutines, Flow, JUnit, Espresso, and MockK
  • Experience developing Android authentication and identity capabilities with biometrics, Android Keystore, SafetyNet, and secure credential storage
  • Advanced knowledge of Android application security, including ProGuard or R8, root detection, certificate pinning, and secure development practices
  • Experience integrating Ping Identity SDK and building custom authentication journeys
  • Experience with Android CI/CD, Google Play releases, and staged rollouts using feature flags
  • Knowledge of FIDO2, WebAuthn, passkeys, and passwordless Android authentication
  • Experience optimizing performance, profiling memory, and diagnosing complex Android issues
  • Familiarity with financial-services mobile apps, PCI compliance, data protection regulations, and banking security requirements
