R&D Electronics Hardware Engineer at ABB - Quartino, Switzerland

Design and validate analog and digital electronics for ABB’s UPS and power-conditioning solutions in Quartino. Lead PCB development, compliance, lifecycle engineering, and hardware verification.

Description

  • Design and validate analog and digital circuits from concept through qualification and product release
  • Complete schematic capture, component selection, simulation, prototyping, testing, and hardware verification
  • Collaborate with PCB layout, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams
  • Ensure designs satisfy signal integrity, EMC/EMI, thermal, manufacturability, DFM, DFA, and DFT requirements
  • Manage product lifecycle activities including obsolescence, redesigns, alternate-component qualification, cost optimization, sustaining engineering, and lifecycle risk mitigation
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards and accurate engineering documentation
  • Develop and implement ideas that support the technology roadmap
  • Provide R&D guidance, troubleshooting, and product engineering support
  • Contribute to technology, product, solution development, and related intellectual property
  • Work with the R&D team on next-generation UPS and power-conditioning solutions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, power electronics engineering, or a related discipline
  • Three to five years of electronics hardware design and development experience in an R&D or product development setting
  • Strong capability in analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, circuit analysis, and electronic system development
  • Practical experience with PCB design and development, including component selection, layout reviews, prototype bring-up, validation, and hardware debugging
  • Proficiency with electronic design and simulation tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, LTspice, PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalent software
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI, signal integrity, thermal management, reliability, IPC, UL, IEC, CE, RoHS, product compliance, and root cause analysis
  • Strong English communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Authorization to work for ABB in Quartino, Ticino, Switzerland
