Principal Mechanical Designer - Montreal Hybrid

Lead 3D design and detailed engineering for Sedgman mineral-processing projects. Provide drafting expertise, quality assurance, and mentorship to multidisciplinary project teams.

Description

  • Deliver detailed designs from sketches or specifications across mechanical, process, electrical, structural, hydraulic, or civil engineering disciplines under engineering or senior drafting direction.
  • Develop 3D models from complex, multidisciplinary engineering concepts.
  • Join design reviews and address drafting challenges and compliance requirements.
  • Follow the engineering design change-management process.
  • Produce drawings for plants, equipment, services, facilities, and structures.
  • Contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of quality-management processes and systems.
  • Apply Sedgman design workflows, systems, and procedures to engineering work.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert while coaching junior staff and project teams.
  • Maintain focus on schedules, quality, and client satisfaction.
  • Review drafting deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with design specifications and intent.
  • Work carefully and efficiently to uphold quality and client standards.

Requirements

  • Associate diploma in CAD, associate degree in engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
  • At least 20 years of industry experience in a design or consultancy environment, preferably in mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry.
  • Proven subject-matter expertise across projects from conceptual design through detailed engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD 3D tools, including AutoCAD Plant 3D, Advanced Steel, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Vault, and Plant 3D.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.
  • Bilingual communication skills.
