Mainframe z/OS System Engineer

Description

  • Configure and optimize customer z/OS environments.
  • Maintain system availability, reliability, and security.
  • Investigate and resolve system issues, including escalated incidents that require in-depth technical analysis.
  • Test and implement approved changes as part of change management.
  • Work with other z/OS teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Record system configurations, operating procedures, and issue resolutions.
  • Take part in root cause analysis and ongoing service improvement.
  • Support core mainframe z/OS infrastructure, including operating systems, configuration, automation, scheduling, storage, performance and capacity, output services, logical security, production control, DB/DC, Omegamon, MQ, and networking.

Requirements

  • A technical college qualification, relevant work experience, or both.
  • Knowledge of ISPF, JES2, JCL, REXX, SMP/E, PCOMM, Parallel Sysplex, disaster recovery, and product maintenance and upgrades.
  • Practical experience diagnosing and resolving complex system or infrastructure issues.
  • Knowledge of system programming practices relevant to the role.
  • Experience with incident, problem, change, and inventory management processes.
  • A track record of delivering reliable outcomes in customer environments.
  • Preferred: experience using automation tools or scripting for system programming tasks.
  • Preferred: familiarity with zCloud platforms and hybrid infrastructure.
  • Preferred: experience in multi-vendor or large-scale enterprise IT environments.
  • Preferred: relevant technical certifications.
