Lead iOS Engineer (Remote, Portugal)

Lead the architecture, delivery, and evolution of SimpleStudy’s iOS app while mentoring the mobile team. Build and optimize a consumer AI learning platform through product experimentation and measurable iteration.

Description

  • Take end-to-end ownership of the mobile app’s architecture, performance, roadmap, and release process
  • Mentor and guide the two current mobile engineers
  • Define technical direction and strengthen mobile engineering standards
  • Collaborate with the engineering manager on engineering strategy
  • Work with the founder on product direction across growth, onboarding, and retention
  • Create fluid animations, responsive interactions, and experiences aligned with iOS conventions
  • Ship, instrument, evaluate, and refine features within a product-led growth and A/B testing environment
  • Manage the App Store presence and release cadence, including versioning, store optimization, and crash and performance monitoring
  • Help develop a dedicated mobile team as the organization grows

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience developing native iOS applications
  • A strong record of leading and mentoring engineering teams
  • Proficiency in Swift
  • Demonstrated experience building and launching consumer-focused iOS applications
  • Hands-on experience with SwiftUI and UIKit
  • Familiarity with iOS frameworks and tools including Combine and push notifications
  • Experience deploying applications through the App Store
  • Working knowledge of Xcode, XCTest, TestFlight, and App Store Connect
  • Experience with established iOS architecture and state-management patterns
  • Experience debugging applications, improving performance, and monitoring crashes
  • Objective-C experience is a plus
  • Kotlin-based Android development is a plus
