Junior Roadway Engineer - Richmond, VA

Support roadway, drainage, sidewalk, and transit-related transportation projects for Moffatt & Nichol in Richmond. Prepare designs, estimates, reports, permits, and client materials while working with project managers and licensed engineers.

Description

  • Create transportation project designs, plans, quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and specifications
  • Collaborate within an integrated Transportation Group design team
  • Perform work under the direction of licensed engineers
  • Apply established civil engineering methods and principles
  • Build productive working relationships and contribute effectively as a team member
  • Prepare designs and technical documents for minor and major roadway projects
  • Develop plans for sidewalks and shoulder improvements
  • Contribute to drainage design assignments
  • Support project managers with plan development
  • Help prepare project cost estimates
  • Contribute to technical report preparation
  • Support client coordination activities
  • Assist with permitting processes
  • Participate in national workshare and may support projects beyond local and state markets

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering is required
  • Two to five years of experience at an engineering consulting firm is required
  • Professional experience in transportation roadway design is required
  • Background working on State DOT projects is preferred
  • Professional experience with MicroStation is required
  • Experience with AutoCAD and comparable computer-aided design systems
  • Experience using Civil 3D
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication abilities
  • Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and ability to provide required hiring documentation
  • Capacity for prolonged sedentary work, client interaction, and occasional travel
