Junior Backend Developer – Remote, United States
Join CodeHunter as a junior backend developer building Java and Spring Boot services on AWS for a zero-trust code security platform. You will develop APIs, investigate production issues, and grow toward independent ownership.
Description
- Build and maintain Java and Spring Boot backend services and REST APIs
- Produce clean, tested, maintainable code and contribute to peer reviews
- Create relational database schemas, write SQL queries, and investigate data issues
- Deploy and support AWS services using established infrastructure patterns
- Diagnose production problems, escalating and coordinating with the team lead when needed
- Apply AI-assisted development tools to support onboarding and delivery
- Work with the engineering lead and product and QA partners to define and release features
- Develop knowledge of the codebase, engineering practices, and domain while advancing toward independent ownership
Requirements
- 1–3 years of professional backend or full-stack development experience in any programming language
- Solid foundations in data structures, algorithms, debugging, and problem-solving
- Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar programming languages and frameworks
- Experience developing and using REST APIs
- Familiarity with SQL and relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
- Ability to work independently in a remote setting and communicate proactively
- Willingness to ask questions, accept feedback, and grow into broader ownership
- Working knowledge of Java and Spring or Spring Boot is a plus
- Exposure to AWS or another major cloud platform is a plus
- Experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines is a plus
- Familiarity with microservices architecture is a plus
- Open-source contributions or personal projects are a plus
- Remote role, with a strong preference for candidates in or near the US Eastern time zone
