Freelance Associate Creative Director — Remote, United States
DEPT® is seeking a freelance Associate Creative Director to shape visual direction for integrated campaigns. The role leads art direction, production, and creative mentorship across film, digital, social, and physical experiences.
Description
- Set the visual direction for key accounts
- Lead art direction for pitches and flagship client projects
- Mentor junior and mid-level Art Directors and Designers through craft-focused feedback
- Direct the visual narrative across film, digital, social, and physical campaign experiences
- Oversee production visuals, including photographer and director selection, color grading, retouching, and motion design
- Present design systems and art direction to clients
- Work with Creative leadership to improve design workflows and define quality standards
- Evaluate emerging tools and AI-powered technologies
- Help build an inclusive, design-led culture centered on experimentation, learning, and visual quality
Requirements
- At least five years of art direction or design experience in a creative agency, high-growth brand, or related environment
- Advanced command of art direction, layout, typography, and integrated visual storytelling across platforms
- Experience managing small teams or coordinating freelancers and junior creative professionals
- Expert proficiency with Figma
- Expert proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
- Working knowledge of motion design or AI image generation
- Ability to connect visual decisions, such as color palettes and casting, to client objectives and brand identity
- Ability to explain complex visual concepts to clients and other non-visual stakeholders
- Authorization to work in the United States, verified through E-Verify
