Description

  • Lead the testing, integration, maintenance, and deployment of stereo photogrammetry systems and related instruments on fixed and mobile observation platforms
  • Advance, test, and install vehicle-based optical camera systems for tracking airborne objects such as tornado debris
  • Design deployment solutions for camera platforms operating in severe weather
  • Develop and integrate software supporting data quality assurance, system operations, and data analysis
  • Combine photogrammetric observations with GPS heading data and information from other onboard instruments
  • Maintain and improve vehicle platforms and instrument integrations used for field data collection
  • Identify and document system capabilities that inform imagery and data-collection activities
  • Create workflows for analyzing imagery and tracking observed objects
  • Prototype tools that combine tracked-object data from multiple observation points
  • Evaluate and cross-validate observations against data from other NSSL observing platforms
  • Support the development, testing, and deployment of experimental observing systems
  • Participate in field data collection and collaborative research activities
  • Produce schematics, code repositories, test reports, and other technical documentation
  • Prepare quarterly project status reports
  • Author an AMS-guideline report and develop a conference-style presentation for stakeholders and potential conferences

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline
  • At least six years of full-time engineering experience
  • Proven ability to independently integrate multiple sensor and instrumentation systems across fixed and mobile platforms
  • Experience applying optical measurements and image processing to scientific or technical work
  • Experience developing software and visualization methods for scientific data collection and analysis
  • Experience designing and implementing tailored solutions for deploying observing platforms
  • Experience contributing to field projects involving scientific data collection
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and other programming languages used for data workflows and analysis
  • Ability to collaborate within a technical team, preferably on field data-collection projects
  • Completion of an online IT security awareness course within one week of starting
  • Foreign national candidates must undergo export-control review and receive CO/COR approval before consideration
