Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Regina, Hybrid

Design, test, and commission power systems for Shermco Canada’s utility, industrial, commercial, and infrastructure customers. Support field projects in Saskatchewan and other locations.

Description

  • Create conceptual, preliminary, and detailed electrical designs for industrial facilities, substations, utility infrastructure, and commercial power systems
  • Prepare and review single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, grounding plans, and construction drawings
  • Select and specify switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, motor control centers, protective devices, cables, raceways, and grounding systems
  • Perform load, cable-sizing, voltage-drop, grounding, equipment-sizing, and related electrical calculations
  • Assist with short-circuit, equipment evaluation, protection coordination, load-flow, power quality, and arc-flash studies
  • Apply the Canadian Electrical Code, relevant CSA and IEEE standards, client specifications, and accepted engineering practices
  • Coordinate assigned work with clients, project managers, field-service teams, contractors, vendors, and other engineering disciplines
  • Track project work against scope, schedule, budget, quality standards, and client expectations
  • Address technical questions, information requests, field changes, and construction issues
  • Visit sites to gather field data, verify existing conditions, and confirm design requirements
  • Assist with construction support, equipment inspection, testing, commissioning, energization, and troubleshooting
  • Work with field teams to produce designs that are practical, safe, and constructible
  • Occasionally perform field work under Field Services direction for shutdown, startup, and maintenance projects
  • Comply with Shermco and client health, safety, environmental, and site-access requirements
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited or recognized engineering program
  • Registered or eligible and willing to register as an Engineer-in-Training with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan
  • Four to six years of experience in power systems, electrical distribution, substations, protection and control, electrical testing, commissioning, or field engineering
  • Ability to work under licensed Professional Engineer supervision and within applicable engineering practice requirements
  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel approximately 10%, including overnight travel and work away from home when required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Safety-first approach to all work
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing drawings, test data, reports, and technical documentation
  • Practical problem-solving ability and curiosity about how electrical systems operate in the field
  • Clear communication skills for working with internal teams, customers, and site personnel
  • Willingness to learn from engineers, technologists, technicians, and field-service teams
  • Ability to work in both office and field settings
  • Strong organizational skills for managing documentation and project details
  • Sound professional judgment and willingness to work within the limits of training, supervision, and EIT status
  • Compliance with applicable site-access requirements, safety training, background checks, drug and alcohol testing where legally permitted and required by customer or site policy, and Shermco safety standards
