Description
- Collaborate daily with journalists, news directors, and editors across Northeast regional hubs and Member stations
- Develop and coordinate coverage with national significance
- Edit, fact-check, and oversee audio, digital, and broadcast content across platforms
- Apply NPR standards for fairness, accuracy, and technical quality
- Coordinate rapid-response breaking news coverage across the Northeast
- Direct station updates and dispatches for national programs, digital platforms, and hourly newscasts
- Coordinate with major NPR programs, podcasts, and the digital news desk on story length, angles, framing, and scheduling
- Monitor regional news cycles and maintain forward-looking editorial calendars
- Spot emerging cultural, political, and systemic trends across the Northeast
- Lead workshops, coaching sessions, and feedback discussions for Regional Hubs
- Advance story ideas that reflect the Northeast’s demographic and geographic diversity
- Manage freelancer agreements, story commissions, and reporter filing payments
- Work with regional editors and Network Desk leadership to strengthen communication pipelines and newsroom workflows
Requirements
- At least five years of professional journalism experience at a reputable news organization
- At least three years editing regional or national daily news across audio and digital platforms
- Proven ability to edit breaking news accurately and ethically under tight deadlines
- Experience editing enterprise, investigative, or feature journalism from pitch through final audio or digital production
- Strong editorial judgment grounded in fact-checking, balance, fairness, and journalistic ethics
- Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with distributed reporters, freelancers, or station partners
- Experience editing audio broadcasts or podcasts as well as digital news copy
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time
- Excellent news-writing, line-editing, and sound-rich audio structuring abilities
- Ability to give clear, constructive, and empathetic feedback to journalists at varied experience levels
- Ability to manage competing assignments and make calm, decisive choices during breaking news
- Familiarity with modern content management systems, audio editing software, Slack, and AirTable
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Must work from a designated remote location in ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, or DC
- Bilingual or multilingual fluency relevant to regional coverage areas is preferred
