Database Administrator II – SQL, Remote United States

Remote Database Administrator II role supporting Microsoft SQL Server environments for OSC Global. Responsibilities include performance tuning, security, backups, recovery, migrations, scripting, reporting, and operational reliability.

Description

  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server databases, including creation, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance optimization, and reliability management.
  • Work with application owners on daily operations, issue resolution, resource planning, and future database upgrades.
  • Execute database backup, recovery, and restoration procedures.
  • Maintain database security and integrity controls while monitoring availability and performance.
  • Support database creation, cloning, migration, and recovery activities.
  • Help manage system environments through database health monitoring, upgrade planning and implementation, backup and recovery, and transition planning and execution.
  • Provide occasional support outside normal hours and on weekends when required.
  • Create, maintain, and improve Windows and SQL PowerShell scripts, SSIS packages, and SSRS reports.
  • Complete additional duties and management-assigned special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server administration, including integrity, security, performance monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve SQL Server issues involving performance, connectivity, blocking, deadlocks, security, and data integrity.
  • Ability to analyze and implement database performance improvements through query optimization, indexing, monitoring, and diagnostic tools.
  • Knowledge of SQL Server architecture, standards, concepts, administrative tools, and established best practices.
  • Understanding of backup and recovery methods, high-availability solutions, business continuity planning, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Familiarity with IT operations, change management, and technology service delivery frameworks.
  • Experience maintaining and supporting databases in complex enterprise environments.
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, PowerShell, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Experience administering, monitoring, and migrating cloud-based database platforms and technologies.
  • Ability to document technical procedures, maintain system records, and follow operational standards.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Consistent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, integrity, and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and contribute effectively to a collaborative team.
  • Availability for a 4x10 schedule, Monday through Thursday, plus occasional off-hours or weekend work when necessary.
  • Must possess identification compliant with the Real ID Act at the time of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy access badge.
  • Ability to pass background and drug screening.
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2019 or 2022 certification, or an equivalent current database technology certification, is preferred.
