Controller - Acton ADU (Hybrid, California)

Acton ADU is seeking a Controller to develop scalable reporting and finance infrastructure for its California ADU design-build business. The role oversees accounting, compliance, payroll, budgeting, tax administration, and financial systems.

Description

  • Develop and maintain a cost-efficient financial system capable of delivering timely reports
  • Produce business reports, forecasts, and financial statements
  • Evaluate financial performance and identify opportunities to reduce costs
  • Oversee timesheets, payroll, bookkeeping, 401(k) administration, and budgeting
  • Develop lending-institution relationships to broaden homeowner financing options
  • Ensure compliance with city, state, and federal requirements
  • Administer tax credits, incentives, annual filings, tax-law updates, deadlines, and agency correspondence
  • Maintain shareholder records and oversee stock option administration
  • Create backup coverage for financial responsibilities and document repeatable procedures
  • Recruit, train, and supervise accounting employees and subcontractors
  • Collaborate with leadership, lending partners, external accountants, and the internal team

Requirements

  • At least five years of accounting or finance leadership experience, including direct team management
  • Expert proficiency with QuickBooks
  • Experience implementing or improving financial software
  • Strong knowledge of timekeeping, bookkeeping, financial reporting, and established finance practices
  • Ability to design workflows and integrate systems that lower administrative costs
  • Track record of managing projects through completion
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • CPA qualification is a plus
  • Familiarity with Builder Trend, Go High Level, BambooHR, and Slack, or the ability to learn these tools quickly
  • Construction or project-based accounting experience is a plus
  • Experience with Sage, Viewpoint Spectrum, or a comparable construction ERP is a plus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented, self-directed, and comfortable working with minimal supervision
