Civil Design Engineer, Staff Engineer IV – Alameda Hybrid

Design water, stormwater, roadway, and site infrastructure for Bay Area clients while supporting project delivery, permitting, technical analysis, and junior staff development.

Description

  • Assist the Project Manager or lead designer with project delivery
  • Develop civil engineering designs in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Complete hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, stormwater calculations, and infrastructure sizing under applicable codes and standards
  • Independently perform engineering calculations, quantity takeoffs, and technical analyses, documenting work for QA/QC review
  • Coordinate technical submittals, address agency comments, and support permitting across multiple concurrent projects
  • Maintain project files, design records, and documentation according to firm standards
  • Balance concurrent assignments and deliver work on schedule
  • Create and coordinate project materials and presentations
  • Prepare technical reports, exhibits, and presentation materials
  • Work with colleagues, clients, and public agency representatives
  • Develop grading, drainage, paving, and utility plans
  • Contribute to the F&L Business Development Team
  • Complete fieldwork related to design activities
  • Assign suitable tasks to junior staff and provide mentorship
  • Handle other assigned responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate required
  • At least six years of municipal and subdivision infrastructure design and mapping experience; internship experience may qualify
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Interest in developing grading, drainage, paving, utility plans, and exhibits
  • Experience preparing portions of plans, specifications, and estimates
  • Strong, effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate and design several projects at the same time
  • Authorization to work in the United States required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to make periodic visits to field locations, including active construction sites, while using appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Preferred: actively pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with the exam scheduled or completed
  • Preferred: experience with stormwater management design, drainage modeling, sewer modeling, ArcGIS, and/or roadway design
  • Preferred: experience supervising or reviewing junior engineering staff
