Civil and Environmental Engineer – Water and Wastewater

Water Works Engineers is seeking a civil and environmental engineer to design water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure in Southern California. The role covers engineering calculations, technical documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and construction support.

Description

  • Plan and design water, wastewater, and recycled water infrastructure, taking the lead on engineering work when appropriate for your experience.
  • Design treatment plants, pipelines, pump stations, storage facilities, and associated site improvements.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and compare alternatives for hydraulic, treatment, conveyance, and mechanical process systems.
  • Contribute to hydraulic modeling, capacity assessments, infrastructure planning, and treatment process design.
  • Develop and coordinate engineering reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineer’s cost estimates.
  • Coordinate design activities with civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Assist with permitting activities and coordination with regulatory agencies.
  • Apply applicable codes, design standards, regulations, and client requirements to project work.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Support construction through submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, field observations, and contractor coordination.
  • Coordinate assigned work with project managers and technical leads to meet scope, budget, schedule, and delivery objectives.
  • Lead design tasks or defined work packages at the experienced-engineer level.
  • Review technical work, provide guidance, and mentor junior engineers and designers.
  • Assist with project management responsibilities as assigned.
  • Join client meetings, site visits, and coordination activities across Water Works Engineers offices.
  • Build technical knowledge and professional capabilities through project work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, environmental, mechanical, or a related engineering field from an accredited institution.
  • Relevant experience with municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • An active Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • California PE registration is strongly preferred, with registration requirements varying by assigned responsibilities.
  • Engineering experience appropriate to the position’s level.
  • Proven design experience with water or wastewater treatment facilities, hydraulic analysis and modeling, pipelines and conveyance, pump stations and storage, or mechanical process piping and equipment.
  • Ability to produce engineering calculations and technical documentation while contributing to coordinated design deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of applicable engineering standards, construction practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with California municipal or utility projects is preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, hydraulic modeling software, and Microsoft Office.
  • Senior candidates should have experience leading design, reviewing technical work, coordinating disciplines, mentoring staff, or managing project scope, schedules, and budgets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to work independently within a collaborative project team.
  • Ability to perform office and fieldwork and travel for site visits, client meetings, and coordination with other offices as needed.
