Category Specialist – Sales Equipment Procurement

Lead global procurement for sales equipment supporting Sulzer’s Water and Industry businesses. Manage sourcing, suppliers, negotiations, and procurement frameworks from Barcelona or Madrid.

Description

  • Analyze purchasing data to identify patterns across suppliers, markets, and stakeholders
  • Create and execute a global sales-equipment category strategy for the Water and Industry businesses
  • Find opportunities to consolidate suppliers, standardize products, reduce costs, and improve commercial terms
  • Direct sourcing projects, supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contract completion
  • Develop procurement frameworks for sales entities and local procurement teams
  • Assess regional and global sourcing options against local needs, logistics, risk, and total cost
  • Strengthen supplier partnerships and track performance through KPIs and recurring business reviews
  • Assess suppliers for capability, competitiveness, quality, sustainability, and strategic alignment
  • Complete supplier qualification and risk evaluations
  • Work with local procurement teams to apply global strategies in individual markets
  • Help standardize sales equipment and customer-specific components across business units and regions
  • Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Quality, Engineering, and other stakeholders
  • Assist with purchase-order execution as the category operating model evolves
  • Provide procurement input to new product introductions and product development initiatives
  • Keep procurement records current and ensure adherence to policies and procedures
  • Advance continuous improvement, workplace safety, employee wellbeing, and sustainability

Requirements

  • Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field at bachelor’s or master’s level, or equivalent professional experience
  • Around five years of experience in strategic procurement, sourcing, category management, or a similar purchasing position
  • Background managing sourcing projects, supplier partnerships, commercial negotiations, and contracts
  • Experience with industrial equipment, technical products, tools, catalog-driven products, or related categories
  • Strong analytical capability with the ability to turn purchasing data into sourcing strategies and business opportunities
  • Track record of identifying cost drivers and achieving measurable savings or cost avoidance
  • Effective negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management abilities
  • Capacity to work across procurement, sales, technical teams, and business stakeholders in an international setting
  • Proactive, organized, and results-focused approach to handling competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently while partnering with local and global teams
  • Excellent English proficiency
  • Advanced digital skills and confidence using Microsoft Excel
  • Working knowledge of ERP concepts and readiness to learn new systems quickly
  • Preferred: Experience in industrial equipment, engineering, manufacturing, or technical distribution
  • Preferred: Experience managing categories that combine global strategy with local execution
  • Preferred: Familiarity with retail, catalog purchasing, or standardized product portfolios
  • Preferred: Experience supporting Water, Industry, sales organizations, or project-based operations
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of Spanish
  • Preferred: Experience with SAP, Salesforce, business intelligence tools, or similar digital platforms
  • Preferred: Background in a complex global or matrix organization
  • Preferred: Knowledge of supply-chain risk management, supplier qualification, and continuity planning
