Backend Software Engineer, Java/AWS — Wallee Group (Vilnius Hybrid)

Develop scalable Java services and AWS data pipelines for Wallee Group’s secure payment and checkout technology. Support reliable systems used by merchants worldwide.

Description

  • Develop and maintain Java backend services running on AWS
  • Build and improve data processing and reporting pipelines for large datasets
  • Apply AWS services including S3, Athena, Lambda, SQS, Redshift, and RDS to create scalable, cost-efficient solutions
  • Take ownership of production services through monitoring, alerting, performance tuning, and incident response
  • Partner with product and engineering teams across the tribe to deliver merchant-focused features
  • Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions while advancing engineering practices
  • Design, build, deploy, monitor, and operate backend services across their full lifecycle

Requirements

  • Demonstrated professional experience developing Java backends with Spring, Quarkus, or comparable frameworks
  • Practical experience building and operating workloads on AWS
  • Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL; PostgreSQL experience is advantageous
  • Experience with distributed systems, message queues, or batch and streaming data processing
  • A pragmatic engineering mindset focused on maintainability, testing, and delivering working software
  • Fluent English communication skills
  • A university degree in Computer Science or a closely related field is required
  • Experience with AWS analytics services such as Athena, Glue, and ETL is advantageous
  • Familiarity with infrastructure as code using Terraform or CloudFormation is advantageous
  • Experience in payments, fintech, or another high-volume transactional environment is advantageous
