Backend Engineer, Mission Operations Services – Toulouse Hybrid
Build Python microservices for Loft Orbital’s satellite mission-control platform. Support spacecraft operations, telemetry, APIs, and real-time mission troubleshooting.
Description
- Design and develop backend services for satellite operations, including pass planning, autopilot, activity, and daily operations capabilities
- Process commands and telemetry across satellite buses and ground-segment providers with an emphasis on safety, resilience, and observability
- Develop production Python services and manage them across the full lifecycle, from design and implementation to deployment and maintenance
- Work with flight software, embedded software, integration and test, and space infrastructure teams to add satellite buses and capabilities to Cockpit
- Improve APIs, workflows, and diagnostic tools for Cockpit users, including operators, test engineers, and solutions engineers
- Join SatDevOps spacecraft-operations rotations, investigate anomalies, and assist with real-time incident response as required
- Develop and scale microservices connecting ground and flight software to support safe, dependable on-orbit operations
- Troubleshoot active missions across multiple satellite platforms
Requirements
- At least four years of relevant backend software engineering experience in production environments
- Strong professional experience developing Python applications for production
- Practical experience with Docker and container-based development workflows
- Hands-on experience with backend web frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI
- Demonstrated ability to design, document, and maintain HTTP, GraphQL, or REST-style APIs
- Experience with Django or GraphQL is advantageous
- Strong database fundamentals and practical experience with systems such as Postgres or time-series databases are advantageous
- Production exposure to Kubernetes is advantageous
- Familiarity with InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, or comparable time-series technologies is advantageous
- Experience with mission-critical, distributed, or real-time systems is advantageous
