Azure DevOps Cloud Engineer – Hybrid, Mechanicsville, VA

Support VDOT tolling modernization by engineering secure Azure CI/CD automation for reliable, observable, and governed service delivery. Improve deployment resilience, operational visibility, compliance, and cloud cost efficiency.

Description

  • Build secure, automated deployment processes for VDOT ITD tolling modernization
  • Support dependable service releases and updates
  • Develop and maintain Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines in YAML and Classic for microservices and APIs
  • Create reusable pipeline templates, release standards, and deployment safeguards
  • Manage secrets and encryption keys securely with Azure Key Vault and managed identities
  • Automate SQL database deployments with DACPAC and SQLCMD, integrating migrations into release workflows
  • Implement blue/green deployments and automated rollback capabilities
  • Standardize environment provisioning and configuration across Development, QA, and Production
  • Create dashboards and actionable alerts for pipeline and deployment health
  • Implement and govern Azure services including App Services, Function Apps, API Gateways or API Management, and AKS
  • Support Entra ID single sign-on and least-privilege role assignments
  • Maintain fault tolerance and high availability while coordinating changes and rollback plans
  • Monitor Azure services and application workloads for availability and performance
  • Investigate operational issues using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics
  • Resolve production incidents promptly and document root-cause analysis
  • Take part in operational support cycles and maintenance readiness reviews
  • Account for PCI or comparable regulatory requirements in system behavior, logging, and integrations
  • Trace tolling data flows end to end and improve integration performance
  • Provide recommendations for cloud cost visibility and optimization
  • Work with architects, developers, DBAs, and engineers on secure network and identity designs
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders

Requirements

  • Practical experience building Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines with YAML and Classic
  • Experience deploying Azure applications across App Services, Functions, containers, and APIs
  • Experience securing secrets and keys with Azure Key Vault, RBAC, and managed identities
  • Experience integrating automated SQL deployments with CI/CD workflows
  • Experience with App Insights, pipeline logs, dashboards, and alerting for observability
  • Experience delivering Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates
  • Automation and scripting experience using PowerShell and/or Python
  • Production experience administering or engineering Azure environments
  • At least 4 years of experience with Azure DevOps CI/CD using YAML and Classic
  • At least 3 years of experience with Azure App Services, Functions, APIs, and containers
  • At least 3 years of experience managing secrets and keys securely
  • At least 1 year of experience automating SQL deployments
  • At least 3 years of experience standardizing environment provisioning and configuration
  • At least 3 years of experience with logging and observability
  • At least 2 years of experience with Infrastructure as Code
  • At least 1 year of experience with Entra ID, identity access management, and least-privilege practices
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-104, AZ-305, or AZ-400 are preferred
  • Experience establishing CI/CD standards or DevOps frameworks for microservices is desirable
  • Experience with Docker and AKS containerization and orchestration is desirable
  • Experience automating governance and compliance through Azure Policy, RBAC standards, and pipeline safeguards is desirable
  • Experience with PCI or comparable compliance frameworks is desirable
  • Experience analyzing and optimizing enterprise cloud costs is desirable
  • One year of AKS or Docker and Kubernetes containerization experience is desirable
  • A fingerprint-based background check is required
