Associate or Experienced Guidance, Navigation and Control Engineer

Develop guidance, navigation and control algorithms, simulations, and flight software for Boeing Defense spacecraft and hypersonic platforms. Work spans systems integration, autonomy, and flight testing of aerospace technologies.

Description

  • Create and verify guidance, navigation, and control algorithms for spacecraft, re-entry vehicles, and hypersonic or airborne platforms.
  • Build and maintain six-degree-of-freedom dynamics simulations and analysis tools to assess missions and performance.
  • Develop and validate GN&C flight software with MATLAB and Simulink models and C/C++ prototypes.
  • Connect flight software to testbeds and avionics systems.
  • Use astrodynamics and flight mechanics in mission design, new orbit concepts, and trajectory optimization.
  • Apply aerodynamics, atmospheric flight mechanics, and control principles to re-entry guidance, navigation, and flight control.
  • Create powered and unpowered guidance laws and autonomy tools for orbital and atmospheric operations.
  • Help investigate operational anomalies, conduct functional tests, and address service incidents.
  • Prepare concepts of operations, simulation materials, and test procedures to move prototypes toward flight testing.
  • Work with systems engineering, avionics, test, and business development colleagues.
  • Explain technical tradeoffs to stakeholders.
  • Find process inefficiencies and build reusable tools and automations to address them.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing technology), computer science, data science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or a directly related non-U.S. equivalent.
  • At least two years of engineering experience or a master's degree.
  • Engineering experience with aircraft, missiles, spacecraft, autonomous platforms, or similar vehicles.
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience developing GN&C algorithms, models, and simulations.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Current Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI), or agreement to enter a Continuous Evaluation program after starting.
  • Must not require employment visa sponsorship.
  • Ability to work effectively in broad, loosely defined design areas and communicate technical results clearly.
  • C/C++ or comparable programming experience sufficient to implement and test GN&C algorithms.
  • Familiarity with state estimation and sensor fusion, GPS/INS, or air data systems.
  • Knowledge of classical and modern control theory and nonlinear control design.
  • Experience with model-based development and flight test support.
