Assistant General Counsel, Loan Servicing — GoodLeap (Remote)

Provide senior legal counsel to GoodLeap’s remote servicing organization, with a focus on consumer lending compliance and operational guidance. Lead legal strategy across collections, loss mitigation, default management, regulatory risk, and servicing transactions.

Description

  • Act as the dedicated legal adviser to GoodLeap’s Servicing Team.
  • Deliver day-to-day counsel and real-time operational guidance to the Servicing organization.
  • Advise on loss mitigation programs, collections strategy, default management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead compliance reviews and policy development under Reg X (RESPA), Reg Z (TILA), FDCPA, UDAAP, TCPA, applicable state servicing and collections laws, and GSE and agency servicing guidelines.
  • Create, review, and maintain loss mitigation policies, collections strategies, and servicing procedures.
  • Assess and reduce legal and regulatory exposure while advising on current and prospective investment products and strategies.
  • Track regulatory changes and guide implementation of new rules affecting servicing and collections activities.
  • Review and negotiate vendor agreements and statements of work for collections and default management functions.
  • Work with Capital Markets and Portfolio Management on servicing representations, covenants, and compliance obligations in asset sales and securitization transactions.
  • Assist with regulatory examinations and address consumer complaints escalated through the CFPB, state agencies, or litigation channels.
  • Represent the legal function on matters involving serviced loan portfolios, customer communications, and servicing operations.
  • Report to the Deputy General Counsel and Executive Vice President.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years practicing law, including substantial experience in consumer loan servicing, collections, or default management; in-house experience with a consumer finance or mortgage servicer or subservicer, GSE or agency-approved seller-servicer, or consumer finance lender is preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of consumer servicing and debt collection law, applicable state collections and foreclosure laws, and related title and lien resolution matters, including FDCPA, TCPA, FCRA, UDAAP, TILA, RESPA, and ECOA.
  • Demonstrated experience advising on loss mitigation structures and post-default strategies in consumer finance, mortgage finance, or home improvement lending.
  • Strong knowledge of FDCPA and TCPA requirements for collections outreach, state collections licensing, and the regulatory classification of collections operations.
  • Understanding of AI governance and emerging rules affecting AI use in collections and financial services.
  • Ability to provide clear, practical legal guidance and take ownership of legal positions in a fast-moving business environment.
  • Active membership in good standing with an applicable state bar.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams while meeting demanding deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with business professionals and legal counsel.
  • Track record of effective collaboration with business professionals and cross-functional internal and external teams.
