Architectural Historian (Remote - United States)

Lead National Historic Preservation Act and cultural resource compliance work for Olsson, an engineering and design firm. Coordinate research, fieldwork, agency engagement, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams.

Description

  • Interpret federal, state, and local regulations while securing required permits and clearances
  • Prepare National Historic Preservation Act documentation in coordination with federal agencies, Native American tribes, state agencies, State Historic Preservation Offices, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
  • Direct archaeological surveys, test excavations, and records for above-ground historic properties
  • Plan public meetings and workshops while building productive stakeholder relationships
  • Support tribal consultation led at the request of federal agencies
  • Partner with engineers, architects, and urban planners across multidisciplinary projects
  • Manage projects through completion, including schedules, budgets, deliverables, subconsultants, clients, and agencies
  • Coach and develop colleagues while facilitating client and regulatory meetings

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or other graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, architecture, historic preservation, or a related discipline
  • Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards under 36 CFR 61 for Archaeologist or Architectural Historian
  • Demonstrated experience with archaeological or historical research, cultural resource management, or historic preservation compliance
  • Capability to manage projects and oversee historical and archaeological regulatory requirements
  • Strong ability to communicate findings clearly and produce polished reports, memoranda, and other documentation
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Collaborative approach and ability to contribute productively within a team
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and consistent in meeting deadlines and completing deliverables
