Application Engineer – Film & Smart Surface Solutions, United Kingdom (Onsite)

Develop and validate materials, models, and reliability tests for Film & Smart Surface Solutions. Support global customers and new electronics product launches.

Description

  • Develop and validate methods, test vehicles, and FEM/FEA modeling technologies for customer and market applications
  • Plan and conduct mechanical, thermal, and electrical reliability testing for products and prototypes
  • Assess material process feasibility and performance through assembly, reliability testing, and failure analysis
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and adapt tests to application and customer requirements
  • Partner with vendors and assembly houses to create integrated customer solutions
  • Work with Product Management and R&D on customer-support projects, product approvals, and launches
  • Collaborate with Quality and Process Engineering on product scale-up and testing
  • Track project progress, publish technical papers, and prepare conference materials
  • Calibrate research and testing equipment to maintain reliable results
  • Provide applications and technical support to global Film & Smart Surface Solutions customers

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, preferably Physics, or Engineering with 1–2 years of manufacturing experience, ideally in FIM or injection moulding; or a Master’s degree or PhD in Science or Engineering with at least 1 year of industrial R&D experience
  • Experience with ANSYS Polyflow or similar finite-element polymer processing software, including thermoforming simulation and thickness distribution prediction
  • Knowledge of Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling and analysis
  • Experience in materials testing, product characterization, reliability testing, and failure analysis
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly injection moulding, FIM, or related technologies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with global customers and cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of differential and integral calculus and matrix algebra
  • Experience using CAD
  • Experience with APQP
  • Successful completion of a Basic Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
