Staff Platform Engineer, AWS — Commonwealth Bank, Sydney Onsite
Lead the architecture, reliability, developer tooling and security of CommBank’s AWS-based BB Companion platform. Guide cross-squad delivery of customer-facing Business Banking capabilities, including responsible AI and agent safety controls.

- Own the BB Companion platform architecture, infrastructure and automation across multiple squads
- Set technical direction, lead design reviews and integrate product, data and AI platform capabilities
- Deliver secure AWS engineering through CI/CD, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code, Kubernetes and EKS
- Strengthen reliability, observability and resilience through SLOs, capacity planning, incident response and remediation
- Advance developer experience with self-service platforms, golden paths and measurable adoption
- Implement security, privacy, data governance, responsible AI and agent safety controls
- Establish engineering standards and apply Staff-level judgement to governance, incidents and complex trade-offs
- Mentor engineers and expand platform capability across squads
- Serve as squad technical lead while partnering with adjacent squads to deliver agentic AI capabilities for customer-facing Business Banking experiences
- Shape architecture and roadmaps, coordinate cross-team dependencies and embed secure-by-design, privacy, data governance, operational resilience and responsible AI practices

- Demonstrated Staff-level leadership in architecture, platform strategy, complex technical decisions and engineer mentoring
- Strong AWS platform engineering experience with Kubernetes/EKS, containers, networking, scalability, resilience, security and cost management
- Hands-on capability with Infrastructure as Code, scripting, CI/CD, GitOps and DevSecOps
- Strong system design experience spanning APIs, integrations, automation, observability, SLOs and dependable operations
- Experience integrating security, privacy, risk controls and vulnerability remediation into platform delivery
- Clear communicator who can align product, engineering, data, AI platform, risk and business stakeholders
- Experience building cloud-native APIs, customer-facing digital services or conversational experiences
- Familiarity with AWS AI services, generative or agentic AI workloads, responsible AI and human oversight controls
- Experience with internal developer platforms, golden paths, self-service tooling or FinOps practices
- Relevant cloud certifications, a technical degree or equivalent practical experience
