Senior Design Manager, Manufacturing Construction (Hybrid) — General Motors
Lead preconstruction design management for General Motors manufacturing facilities, from early planning through coordinated construction documents and handoff. Coordinate engineering, design partners, permitting, procurement, governance, and construction readiness across multidisciplinary projects.

- Guide preconstruction from strategic planning through approved, coordinated construction documents and construction handoff
- Organize subject-matter experts and project partners around requirements, proposals, design criteria, execution plans, and engagement strategies
- Maintain the design basis, scope narrative, interface and deliverable matrices, assumptions, and decision log
- Lead design governance and stage-gate reviews
- Create decision-ready materials for senior leaders and steering committees
- Drive actions, decisions, approvals, risks, issues, and interfaces through resolution
- Manage code, regulatory, permitting, and Authority Having Jurisdiction coordination
- Coordinate architects and engineers, design consultants, and design-builders on schedules, BIM/VDC, submittals, package releases, QA/QC, and integrated reviews
- Lead reviews covering scope, code compliance, constructability, operations, safety, sustainability, commissioning, and bidding or IFC readiness
- Direct the design phase for assigned projects while managing shifting priorities, concurrent work, impacts, and recommendations
- Advance design-management tools, standards, lessons learned, and team capabilities
- Support General Motors manufacturing and non-manufacturing construction programs
आवश्यकताएँ
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related discipline
- At least four years of architecture, engineering, or construction experience supporting major commercial, industrial, or comparable capital projects
- Experience coordinating facility design and construction while technically leading complex multidisciplinary projects from early planning through coordinated documents and construction handoff
- Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, design calculations, construction documents, and applicable building codes
- Experience leading code analysis, regulatory strategy, permit planning, and AHJ coordination
- Knowledge of design management, construction delivery, estimating, scheduling, procurement, and capital-project controls
- Experience coordinating and influencing internal subject-matter experts, AE consultants, design-builders, contractors, operations representatives, and other stakeholders
- Experience leading design reviews, interdisciplinary coordination, QA/QC, constructability assessments, and bidding-readiness reviews
- Working knowledge of BIM/VDC coordination, common data environments, design-review workflows, and document control
- Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency with Google Docs, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Microsoft Project, and design-review or cost-estimating tools
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with GM policies and procedures
- Ability and willingness to travel within North America; a passport is required
- Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future
- Automotive or industrial building project experience preferred
- Familiarity with GM’s organizational structure, construction processes, and governance preferred
- Basic knowledge of automotive manufacturing and assembly processes preferred
- Experience with front-end planning, budgeting, and design-build or design-bid-build delivery strategies preferred
- Master’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or business preferred
- Experience launching and organizing multidisciplinary project teams preferred
