Java Backend Software Engineer at Mercury — Remote in Turkey

  • Help build Mercury’s next-generation shipment platform through backend design, implementation, maintenance, testing, refactoring, and continuous improvement.
  • Create secure, scalable, maintainable, and thoroughly documented API services.
  • Work with DevOps engineers to design build pipelines and create deployment tools and scripts.
  • Develop event collection, notification, and observability filtering capabilities.
  • Build microservices and APIs in partnership with architects and frontend engineers.
  • Partner with QA to shape testing strategies, tools, and engineering practices.
  • Advance backend standards, development methods, technology choices, and third-party tooling across production teams.
  • Work with the Boston Product Team to shape product requirements and the roadmap.
  • Balance technical priorities with a usable product experience.
  • Research developer needs with platform customers and internal teams.
  • Represent customer needs throughout product development.
  • Turn complex technical challenges into clear, elegant solutions.
  • Help create a distinctive experience for Mercury’s shipping platform.
  • Improve application performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Support the growth of junior engineers through mentoring and guidance.

आवश्यकताएँ

  • Fluent English communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a software-focused engineering discipline, such as Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, or Computer Science and Engineering.
  • Four to seven years of backend development experience with Java, including at least three years working with Java 9 or later.
  • Strong command of core Java concepts.
  • At least two years of recent experience with Spring Boot or Spring.
  • Proficiency with Spring Data, Hibernate, and JPA.
  • Experience with unit testing and test-driven development.
  • Code review experience and willingness to participate in reviews.
  • Familiarity with Git and distributed version control systems.
  • Knowledge of designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Understanding of backend architecture, with demonstrated experience using microservices.
  • Experience using Kafka for messaging and streaming.
  • Knowledge of database technologies, especially PostgreSQL.
  • Deep understanding of OAuth, REST, and JWT.
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming, algorithms, and problem-solving.
  • Experience building large-scale backend systems with supporting developer portals or marketplaces.
  • Good understanding of lean and agile values, principles, and practices.
  • Good knowledge of Linux shell commands and scripting.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize customer needs, and deliver promptly.
