Senior Android Software Engineer at Toast
Build and maintain Toast’s Android platform for restaurant point-of-sale devices. Develop Kotlin and Java system apps, device management capabilities, and fleet update tools.
Opis
- Develop features for Toast’s Android system apps using Kotlin and Java.
- Implement device policies, first-run setup, firmware updates, and app updates.
- Create technical designs spanning device apps, cloud services, and Toast hardware.
- Lead project estimation and planning.
- Build and deploy background services with feature flags, staged releases, and monitoring.
- Guide Android app upgrades for new hardware and operating system versions.
- Expand automated end-to-end testing on Toast devices with Robot Framework.
- Diagnose complex production problems across the device fleet.
- Work with Customer Care and pilot customers during device rollouts.
- Support engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing.
- Coordinate with Product Management, Hardware, QA, and Software teams.
- Apply AI tools to improve development processes and speed.
Zahteve
- Bring at least six years of Android application development experience.
- Be proficient in Kotlin or Java.
- Have deep experience with Hilt, AndroidX libraries, and Kotlin Coroutines.
- Understand Android app and service lifecycles, background work, and inter-process communication.
- Have led cross-functional projects from initial concept through launch and production support.
- Be able to debug complex issues across app, framework, and OS layers using adb, logcat, and bug reports.
- Have experience using AI tools for development, testing, and debugging.
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally, including when preparing technical designs.
- Demonstrate strong customer empathy.
- Bonus: Experience with Android device development, Android framework/AOSP/system services/system apps, Device Owner or Device Policy Controller APIs, MDM concepts, large device fleets or OTA updates, and Robot or UIAutomator testing.
