SCADA Field Engineer, Power Generation (Houston Hybrid)
Integrate RTUs, plant DCS, and corporate EMS across a power-generation fleet. Support telemetry, communications, outages, and site projects.
Opis
- Configure and troubleshoot RTUs for plant and dispatch operations, including builds, upgrades, and reliability work.
- Establish and maintain data links between plant DCS and corporate EMS.
- Map, scale, and validate signals end to end.
- Set up and repair communications using Modbus, DNP3, serial and fiber links, media converters, and cellular gateways.
- Test points and validate analog signals, digital signals, and alarms in the field.
- Diagnose scaling errors, timeouts, and frozen points.
- Work with plant engineers, operations teams, transmission owners, vendors, and corporate IT, network, and firewall teams to maintain telemetry.
- Provide on-site support for outages, projects, and integrations, including occasional short-notice visits.
- Coordinate contractors and vendors when needed.
- Help standardize work through templates, as-built documentation, and basic change control.
- Learn from a senior SCADA engineer before taking on fieldwork and integration responsibilities.
Zahteve
- Field experience configuring and programming RTUs.
- Familiarity with RTU platforms such as SEL, Orion, Telvent/Schneider, or comparable systems.
- Practical experience configuring and troubleshooting serial and TCP Modbus and DNP3.
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals, including IP addressing and ports.
- Comfort using field diagnostic equipment such as protocol analyzers.
- Ability to relate plant and DCS signals to SCADA/EMS requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret P&ID drawings.
- Field experience in power plants or heavy industrial settings.
- Hands-on experience with communications hardware, including media converters, I/O cards, and related interface devices.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regionally.
- Strong communication skills across IT, operations, and plant teams.
