Engineering Manager, Notifications at Discord
Lead Discord’s notifications engineering team and platform, supporting reliable, scalable services and infrastructure. Improve re-engagement through experimentation while helping the gaming community stay connected.

- Lead full-stack engineers developing and operating Discord’s notifications platform across Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
- Set technical direction for notification systems and scale them reliably as volume and complexity increase.
- Work with Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing to shape and deliver the notifications roadmap.
- Apply experiments and metrics to improve engagement, retention, and long-term user trust.
- Hire and coach engineers, building a strong team and promoting sound engineering practices.
- Collaborate with teams across Discord to evolve shared platform primitives for reaching users.
- Work with engineering leadership on strategic planning and organizational improvements.
- Report to the Senior Engineering Manager of Growth.
Prasības
- At least five years as a software engineer, including substantial experience building and operating backend or infrastructure systems at scale.
- At least two years of engineering management experience.
- Comfort owning production systems using technologies such as Elixir, Python, pubsub or streaming pipelines, and Kubernetes, with strong judgment around reliability, throughput, and cost at scale.
- Experience partnering closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and engineers to define and ship solutions.
- A record of helping engineers grow and succeed.
- Strong ownership and the ability to explain technical decisions in depth.
- Ability to promote 80/20 thinking, rapid iteration, and high-quality delivery.
- Bonus: Experience leading shared platforms or primitives.
