Staff Quantum Engineer – Spin-Photon Qubit Performance

Lead spin-photon qubit performance at Photonic, advancing high-fidelity quantum systems through experimental engineering, technical risk reduction, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Lead the spin-photon qubit team in improving quantum architecture performance
  • Make fast technical decisions while preserving a system-wide perspective
  • Accelerate technical learning and reduce development risk
  • Define system requirements for implementation by partner teams
  • Plan and deliver rapid risk-reduction projects for complex, novel, multivariable challenges
  • Coordinate feedback with nanofabrication, hardware, software, and modelling teams
  • Gather high-quality data to resolve fundamental technical questions and improve performance measures
  • Develop contingency plans and alternative routes to successful outcomes
  • Translate data and modelling results into actionable system requirements
  • Train, support, and mentor existing and incoming team members as a technical leader
  • Partner with product engineering teams across device physics, classical computer architecture, and compilers

Reikalavimai

  • PhD in experimental quantum information, physics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Exceptional experimental capability and technical judgement
  • At least five years of professorial or industry experience in physics, quantum computing, and/or quantum engineering
  • Strong knowledge of one or more quantum computing platforms, including ion traps, neutral atoms, defect centres, solid-state spins, or superconducting qubits
  • Experience operating multi-qubit systems with high fidelity
  • Adaptability in a rapidly evolving research and development environment
  • Proven creativity in solving engineering and physics challenges
  • Strong collaborative working skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication
  • Ability to relocate to and work onsite in the greater Vancouver, British Columbia area
  • Work permit support is available
