Senior SCADA Engineer – Substations | Qualus | Vancouver
Lead automation and SCADA engineering for Qualus high-voltage substation projects in Vancouver. Guide designs from concept through construction, testing, and commissioning.

- Provide technical leadership for automation, protection, control, and communications systems serving high-voltage substations
- Act as Technical Lead, directing automation designs from initial concepts through construction and commissioning
- Create and review automation philosophies and related application documentation
- Configure and review RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA platforms, communications systems, and supporting documentation
- Prepare and review one-line diagrams, schematics, logic diagrams, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
- Support automation integration for utility transmission and distribution substations
- Lead or support design reviews, factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, and field inspections
- Assist with construction, outage planning, commissioning, and system troubleshooting
- Contribute to client meetings, Safety by Design assessments, and constructability reviews
- Prepare or review project scopes, feasibility studies, estimates, and definition-phase deliverables
- Serve as a technical contact for clients and external project partners
- Mentor junior engineers and improve automation standards, tools, and engineering practices

- Bring 8–15 years of utility automation, protection, control, and metering engineering experience
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university
- Be eligible for, or currently hold, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada
- Have experience with utility automation systems, including SCADA, RTUs, PLCs, HMIs, telemetry, and substation communications
- Understand utility communication protocols such as DNP3, Modbus, and IEC 61850
- Have developed and reviewed automation deliverables, including logic diagrams, RTU and PLC configurations, communications architecture drawings, one-lines, schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams
- Understand automation integration for high-voltage transmission and distribution substations
- Bring practical knowledge of substation construction, commissioning, and outage planning
- Have supported system testing, troubleshooting, and field commissioning
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally
- EPC project experience and familiarity with utility maintenance and operations are strong assets
