Senior Java Developer (Spring Boot, Shopify) – Portugal Remote
Lead scalable Java backend services and Shopify integrations for production commerce systems. The role includes technical ownership, incident resolution, mentoring, hiring support, and technology planning.

- Build and deliver scalable backend services and APIs
- Take ownership of code across development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance
- Investigate and resolve issues affecting production systems
- Assess business requirements critically to achieve effective outcomes
- Promote suitable technologies and help shape the technology roadmap
- Support the development of team members through mentoring
- Participate in technical interviews
- Travel occasionally within Portugal or internationally when project requirements call for it, typically 0–15%

- Demonstrated senior-level Java development experience, including Java 17 or 21, on complex production backend systems
- Practical experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Shopify integrations in production
- Strong command of Spring Boot 3.x for developing and supporting scalable services and APIs
- Proven ability to design, build, and maintain GraphQL APIs
- Substantial hands-on experience with AWS
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Current residence in Portugal
- Experience with AWS DynamoDB and AWS secrets-management tools such as Secrets Manager
- Background with Apache Kafka or comparable event-streaming platforms in asynchronous, event-driven systems
- Experience applying OpenTelemetry and observability practices, including monitoring and distributed tracing
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical recruitment
