VP, Head of Accident & Health Underwriting, Belgium and Netherlands
Lead Sompo’s Accident & Health underwriting business across Belgium and the Netherlands, with responsibility for profitability, market expansion, products, broker relationships, and underwriting teams.
Description
- Expand and manage a profitable, diversified Accident & Health insurance portfolio
- Handle submissions, underwriting, pricing, marketing, and territory management for Accident & Health business
- Build client and broker relationships while developing new and renewal business in Belgium and the Netherlands
- Maintain a balanced portfolio across risk profiles and market segments
- Contribute to the design and implementation of underwriting strategies
- Evaluate underwriting data and obtain suitable terms and conditions
- Negotiate contracts, attend client meetings, present to customers, and complete underwriting reviews
- Strengthen Sompo’s brand presence in Belgium, the Netherlands, and wider Europe
- Create, launch, and maintain local-language products for the Belgian and Dutch markets
- Track developments in local markets and insurance products
- Oversee underwriting filings, data accuracy, and contract quality
- Support the training and technical supervision of Accident & Health personnel
Requirements
- At least 10 years of underwriting and senior management experience in Accident & Health insurance across Belgium and the Netherlands
- Demonstrated success building and expanding a profitable Accident & Health insurance portfolio
- A consistent and disciplined underwriting approach
- Extensive knowledge of Accident & Health markets, regulations, and products
- Strong underwriting background in Accident, Travel Accident, Private Medical Insurance, and International Private Medical Insurance for both group and individual customers
- Established relationships with clients and brokers, supported by strong networking ability
- Experience in a start-up environment or in developing new business or products is advantageous
- Self-starting, analytical, energetic, creative, detail-oriented, determined, resilient, ambitious, hardworking, and collaborative
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with HR, Finance, Actuarial, Legal, Compliance, Operations, IT, and Claims teams
- Excellent presentation and negotiation capabilities
- Willingness to travel and maintain a high standard of service
- Working proficiency in Dutch and English; French is an advantage
