Description

  • Operate Stream’s global platform to keep edge and backend systems performant and highly available worldwide
  • Establish latency and uptime SLOs for product teams and define metrics for platform health
  • Lead infrastructure design reviews and technical decisions across backend, video, and moderation services
  • Determine where and how infrastructure runs while balancing reliability with cost
  • Develop internal tools and services that help engineers ship, deploy, and troubleshoot more efficiently
  • Produce documentation and AI skills that make new product launches repeatable
  • Participate in on-call support and convert incident root causes into lasting fixes
  • Reduce alert noise and help establish a sustainable on-call rotation
  • Give engineering teams visibility into infrastructure costs
  • Partner with a small, senior Platform and Infrastructure team and distributed engineering groups worldwide

Requirements

  • Professional experience building production software in Go, Python, or a comparable language
  • Experience designing and developing systems rather than only configuring or operating them
  • Strong system design ability, including analysis of failure modes, capacity, and cost in distributed systems
  • Sound foundations in networking, storage, and concurrency
  • Experience taking ownership of high-scale production systems
  • Experience setting technical direction through design reviews, RFCs, and decisions adopted by other engineers
  • Willingness to learn unfamiliar Kubernetes, database, or cloud technologies and use AI to address knowledge gaps
  • Daily experience using AI tools in engineering work
  • Ability to measure outcomes and approach cost and reliability as engineering concerns
  • Strong technical writing ability
  • Comfort setting direction and reviewing pull requests within a small team
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a globally distributed team across time zones
  • Nice to have: Production Kubernetes experience
  • Nice to have: PostgreSQL experience at scale, preferably self-hosted or using CloudNativePG
  • Nice to have: Valkey or Redis experience at scale, preferably on Kubernetes
  • Nice to have: AWS and GCP experience, including multi-cloud environments or provider migrations
  • Nice to have: Experience with cloud commitments, reservation strategies, or formal FinOps practices
  • Nice to have: Experience designing SLOs, improving alert hygiene, and using Prometheus and Grafana for observability
  • Nice to have: Experience with real-time systems such as WebSockets, WebRTC, or streaming
  • Nice to have: Open-source contributions or published writing and talks about cloud, platform, or distributed systems
