Senior Laboratory Genetic Counselor, Utah Remote

Support SelectHealth genetic testing decisions through laboratory review, utilization management, and stewardship at Intermountain Health. The role also includes provider education, occasional patient counseling, research, presentations, and clinical quality work.

Description

  • Review genetic testing pre-authorization requests, appeals, and coverage policies for SelectHealth programs
  • Advise ordering providers on testing options, billing and insurance considerations, results, and medical management
  • Offer patients occasional education and counseling about genetic testing choices and findings
  • Apply utilization review and laboratory stewardship principles to guide test selection and handle complex or urgent cases
  • Contribute to research projects led independently or by the broader team
  • Share research outcomes at professional conferences and meetings
  • Develop manuscripts for consideration by professional journals
  • Communicate with providers and patients clearly and directly in spoken and written forms
  • Take part in peer review through objective, constructive feedback

Requirements

  • Hold a master's degree in genetic counseling from an accredited program
  • Be eligible for American Board of Genetic Counselors certification when hired and obtain certification within one year
  • Maintain a Genetic Counselor license in the state of practice, Utah
  • Work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Read, interpret, and critically assess scientific literature
  • Use PowerPoint, word-processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, email, and scheduling applications
  • Demonstrate strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Understand spoken information and communicate verbally
  • Operate computers, telephones, and office equipment while handling paper materials
  • Read computer displays and documents
  • Remain seated or standing for extended periods during work
