Senior Firmware Software Engineer

Senior engineer responsible for C++ firmware, connected hardware, and access-control systems supporting Purpose Brands’ fitness businesses. The role spans device integration, backend connectivity, automated testing, and fleet-management tooling.

Description

  • Own and maintain the connected device fleet
  • Design and maintain C++ firmware for the Access Control System
  • Coordinate integrations between hardware and backend systems
  • Design and develop internal fleet-management tools
  • Build and maintain automated test suites
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Partner with firmware, backend, QA, and lead engineers
  • Coordinate with hardware vendors on new hardware revisions
  • Develop and execute acceptance and manual test plans
  • Help support teams diagnose complex hardware issues worldwide
  • Provide technical guidance on the hardware technology stack
  • Work with hardware and SaaS vendors
  • Coordinate with Supply Chain, Warehouse, and Provisioning teams to support reliable product availability

Requirements

  • Consistently meet commitments while maintaining strong technical standards
  • Work independently and stay organized in a fast-paced, distributed, collaborative environment
  • Write firmware for microcontrollers using C or C++
  • Develop multithreaded applications using mutexes, threads, pthreads, or comparable tools
  • Create and integrate automated tests using tools such as GTest and GMock
  • Possess deep expertise in at least one area identified as nice to have
  • Have more than five years of experience developing hardware products from design through rollout
  • Integrate I2C, RS485, SPI, BLE, and digital I/O interfaces
  • Have substantial experience with microcontrollers or platforms such as ESP32, nRF, Raspberry Pi, or Arduino
  • Read and debug wiring diagrams
  • Design hardware projects from initial concept through completion
  • Interpret and integrate technical specification documents
  • Work effectively with contract manufacturers and logistics partners
  • Use toolchains and build systems such as CMake and linkers
  • Debug complex hardware issues at global scale
  • Have more than five years of experience delivering real-time connected backend systems
  • Develop cloud-native backend applications with .NET, Java, Kotlin, or another comparable language
  • Develop and integrate microservices
  • Develop and integrate authorization, authentication, and OAuth2 systems
  • Manage certificates and use cryptographic tools
  • Implement infrastructure as code with Terraform, CDK, or comparable tools
  • Develop build systems or manage CI/CD using platforms such as GitHub Actions or TeamCity
  • Have experience with iOS, Android, or both
  • Interface with microcontroller BLE devices in Peripheral and Central modes
  • Develop real-time hardware integrations
  • A degree in an appropriate field is described as desirable rather than required
