Senior Engineer Associate – Grid Reliability at AEP

- Support reliability applications, processes, data, and solution integrity through engineering expertise
- Maintain State Estimator functionality across the SPP and ERCOT regions and support other Transmission Operations reliability tools
- Monitor data and model quality and resolve identified issues
- Preserve acceptable solution quality for real-time electric-grid reliability
- Model ongoing capital and overhead work in the State Estimator
- Investigate and analyze EMS powerflow solution iteration results
- Use applications that support daily electric-grid reliability and operations
- Manage modeling responsibilities for an assigned area under AEP’s capital and O&M work plan
- Take part in a 24/7 on-call rotation supporting the System Control Center
- Coordinate assignments and train and guide lower-level employees
- Contribute to recurring project cost forecasts and apply scheduling methods for budget and planning activities
- Take corrective action when project goals are not achieved
- Create, review, and present technical reports, improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses
- Collaborate with peers, identify stakeholders, resolve disagreements, and build consensus
- Make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program for the Engineer Associate SG6 level
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus at least two years of related engineering experience for Engineer SG7
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program plus at least four years of related engineering experience for Engineer Senior SG8
- A master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may qualify candidates for Engineer SG7
- Engineer Senior SG8 may require two years of related engineering experience plus a master’s degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- A non-ABET engineering bachelor’s degree plus a master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor’s program may be accepted
- Engineering Technology bachelor’s degree holders must obtain a certified Professional Engineering (PE) license to meet the degree requirement
- Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination is encouraged and preferred
- PE registration is encouraged and preferred for Engineer Senior SG8
- An Electrical Engineering background is strongly preferred
- Experience with Energy Management Systems, system reliability, grid operations, planning, and modeling is advantageous
- Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call support and respond during assigned on-call periods
- Understanding of engineering theory and analytical methods
- Ability to evaluate system interrelationships, business processes, risks, budgets, utility regulation, and financing
- Ability to prepare, review, and present technical reports
- Ability to apply scheduling methods such as CPM, PERT, and flow charts
