Remote Data Engineer at VSP Vision Care

Build and support scalable data pipelines, integrations, and transformation solutions for VSP Vision Care. The role focuses on analytics enablement, data quality, automation, and reliable data movement across enterprise environments.

Description

  • Build and maintain enterprise data pipelines and analytics capabilities
  • Partner with analytics teams, data warehouse specialists, DBAs, subject matter experts, and cross-functional agile colleagues
  • Develop data integration and transformation solutions
  • Document and evaluate functional and non-functional data requirements
  • Create scalable, automated, and fault-tolerant pipeline solutions
  • Profile source data for accuracy and completeness, then work with business partners to resolve issues
  • Maintain pipelines across development, testing, and production environments
  • Design modular solutions that support code reuse
  • Create mappings, programs, routines, and SQL for data acquisition from legacy, web, cloud, and packaged systems
  • Apply ELT, ETL, data virtualization, and related techniques to improve data movement and performance
  • Maintain metadata management processes and supporting documentation
  • Monitor data quality and create cleansing and transformation rules
  • Take part in code reviews and unit testing to improve performance and reduce defects

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, statistics, economics, or a related field, or have equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication
  • Gather requirements and collaborate effectively with teammates and business partners
  • Bring at least four years of experience on a development team delivering analytical capabilities
  • Bring at least four years of hands-on experience with data preparation, SQL, integration tools, ETL or ELT, and data pipeline design
  • Have experience writing SQL code
  • Understand agile development practices, including Scrum and Kanban
  • Emphasize continuous integration and continuous delivery
  • Have used a data integration platform such as IBM InfoSphere DataStage, Oracle Data Integrator, Informatica PowerCenter, MS SSIS, AWS Glue, or Denodo
  • Be familiar with MPP data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake, Netezza, Teradata, or Redshift
  • Familiarity with event stores and stream processing, including Apache Kafka and platforms such as Confluent, is beneficial
  • Familiarity with API development and management platforms such as MuleSoft and Axway is beneficial
  • Manage focused tasks while staying aligned with broader strategic designs
  • Show initiative, self-direction, and a commitment to ongoing learning
  • For remote or hybrid work, engage actively in virtual environments, including maintaining camera presence during meetings, and comply with VSP Vision Information Security and Privacy Policies when accessing sensitive personal information.
