University of Arkansas System
University of Arkansas System
The University of Arkansas System is a statewide public university system supporting educational access, research, healthcare, and community service across Arkansas. Established in 1871, it brings together universities, community colleges, and specialized institutions that contribute to the state’s economic, educational, and cultural development. The system’s work spans teaching, discovery, administration, and public engagement, guided in part by its Transformation 2025 strategic plan. Its broad network creates opportunities for people interested in contributing to higher education and the many services its institutions provide.

Postdoctoral Fellow, Kaiud Laboratory

Conduct TRPM7 ion-channel and kinase signaling research at UAMS. Apply molecular, cellular, biochemical, biophysical, and cancer biology methods.

Description

  • Study how TRPM7’s ion-channel and kinase functions influence cellular signaling and cancer cell plasticity
  • Perform biochemical, molecular, cellular, and biophysical research on TRPM7 channel–kinase signaling and cancer cell plasticity
  • Plan experiments, conduct studies, gather data, analyze results, and interpret findings
  • Apply recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural and biophysical methods, including cryo-EM
  • Examine TRPM7-dependent cellular and nuclear signaling and channel function through molecular and cellular methods, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics or phosphoproteomics
  • Use patient-derived cancer organoid and animal models in research
  • Contribute to manuscripts, progress reports, abstracts, scientific presentations, and grant applications
  • Support the training and research development of graduate, professional, and undergraduate students
  • Support routine laboratory operations
  • Take part in seminars, scientific meetings, collaborations, career development, and other assigned research activities
  • Collaborate with investigators and research cores at the Center for Molecular Interactions in Cancer Research and the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree by the start date in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, pharmacology, biophysics, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related biomedical field
  • Demonstrate substantial research experience in either protein biochemistry and molecular biology or molecular and cell biology
  • Provide proof of legal authorization to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • For protein biochemistry-focused research, demonstrate experience with recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning and mutagenesis, biochemical assays, and structural or biophysical methods, including cryo-electron microscopy
  • For molecular or cell biology-focused research, demonstrate experience with molecular and cellular methods, patch-clamp electrophysiology, and proteomics or phosphoproteomics
  • Experience spanning both protein biochemistry and molecular or cell biology is not required
  • Eligibility for the TRI T32 HSIE Postdoctoral Training Program is not required for appointment

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans are available for qualifying staff and family members
  • Holiday, vacation, and sick leave
  • Undergraduate education discounts for staff and dependents
