Lead Mission Planning Systems Engineer

Lead the architecture, integration, and sustainment of satellite mission planning systems for national defense communications programs. Support MILSATCOM resource allocation, scheduling, payload configuration, and system integration.

Description

  • Define and maintain requirements for MILSATCOM mission planning systems covering resource allocation, access scheduling, and payload configuration
  • Engineer tools for satellite access planning, terminal-to-satellite assignment, and frequency and bandwidth allocation
  • Model satellite coverage, link availability, and communications resource conflicts across MILSATCOM constellations
  • Develop and improve scheduling and deconfliction algorithms for competing mission planning requests
  • Create and maintain Interface Control Documents connecting mission planning systems with satellite control networks and terminal segments
  • Integrate mission planning software with satellite command-and-control and TT&C systems
  • Conduct trade studies on mission planning architecture, automation methods, and system performance
  • Support verification and validation of mission planning software and algorithm changes
  • Assess and document system risks while coordinating mitigation efforts with government stakeholders
  • Contribute to technical reviews for mission planning system upgrades and sustainment
  • Coordinate with RF engineering, flight dynamics, and satellite operations teams on link budgets, orbital geometry, and resource inputs
  • Support cybersecurity compliance activities, including applicable RMF and ATO documentation
  • Produce technical documentation, briefings, and reports for government program office review
  • Work with prime and support contractors, government civilians, and U.S. Space Force personnel
  • Lead the architecture, integration, and sustainment of mission-critical satellite mission planning systems while guiding technical direction and mentoring engineers

Requirements

  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related technical discipline
  • At least 15 years of systems engineering experience
  • At least 10 years of experience engineering mission planning, satellite resource allocation, or scheduling systems
  • Expertise in satellite communications, including link budgets, frequency and bandwidth allocation, and terminal-to-satellite access
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multiple stakeholders and customers
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with varied personnel in a dynamic team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Preferred: Master’s degree in a technical discipline
  • Preferred: Systems engineering certification such as INCOSE ASEP or CSEP
  • Preferred: Experience with MILSATCOM programs including AEHF, EPS, WGS, PTES, PTS, or FAB-T terminal programs
  • Preferred: Experience with mission planning or scheduling tools and algorithm development
  • Preferred: Knowledge of orbital mechanics and satellite coverage analysis tools such as STK
  • Preferred: Programming or scripting experience with Python, MATLAB, or a comparable language
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
  • Preferred: Experience supporting military and Department of Defense civilian clients
  • Preferred: Experience on a government space systems program
  • Preferred: Experience on a Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) contract
  • Preferred: Active Secret clearance or higher
