Electrical Engineer, Power Systems — Houston Hybrid

Licensed power systems engineer responsible for designing, analyzing, and commissioning electrical systems for industrial and utility clients. Leads project delivery and mentors junior engineers in a hybrid Houston role.

Description

  • Guide the professional growth of junior engineering staff
  • Plan, manage, and deliver engineering projects for clients across varied industries
  • Analyze and design power systems for industrial and utility applications
  • Design and integrate protective relay systems from SEL, GE, Siemens, and Schneider
  • Develop substation automation solutions using SEL RTAC, RTUs, HMIs, and communications protocols
  • Perform short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, grounding, and harmonic studies
  • Prepare, review, and approve electrical drawings such as single-line diagrams, three-lines, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Design and modernize distribution equipment and systems, including MCCs, switchgear, relays, breakers, fuses, and transformers
  • Diagnose electrical system issues and develop corrective actions
  • Assist with field commissioning and maintenance work when required
  • Complete site inspections and gather field data
  • Develop engineering proposals, cost estimates, and client deliverables
  • Report to the Regional Director of Engineering
  • Deliver work across multiple industrial and utility client projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution
  • Professional Engineer registration in a US state and the ability to obtain licensure in additional US states
  • At least five years of power systems engineering experience, preferably including design and field work
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience using EasyPower, SKM, or ETAP for power system modeling
  • Experience designing protective relays, protection and control systems, and relay retrofits
  • Knowledge of microprocessor-based relay systems is an asset
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to field sites as needed
  • Experience designing and commissioning protective relay systems
  • Familiarity with arc-flash, coordination, and power quality studies
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong technical, analytical, and leadership capabilities
  • Collaborative approach with a focus on client success and service quality
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Successful completion of a fit-for-duty physical exam, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in field conditions
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed
