Civil Engineering Intern – Seattle, Onsite

Description

  • Support engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
  • Draft drawings and related documents as directed
  • Gather and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial imagery, and geotechnical and hydrological information
  • Create basic drawings, models, calculations, or code with approved CAD, BIM, analysis, or programming tools
  • Review, navigate, and measure two-dimensional and three-dimensional models
  • Apply established CAD/BIM, graphics, coding, file-naming, and plotting or publishing procedures
  • Organize project and operational information for analysis and model inputs
  • Conduct basic numerical and statistical analyses and assist with model testing, debugging, and validation
  • Record assumptions, process flows, and results for supervisor review
  • Accurately apply revisions to completed drawings and files
  • Address routine technical problems using documented standards and request guidance when necessary
  • Learn and apply Moffatt & Nichol tools, standards, workflows, and relevant academic coursework
  • Take part in intern orientation, training, technical check-ins, and assigned learning projects
  • Report task progress to supervisors and senior team members
  • Provide technicians, engineers, and project managers with requested drawings, files, and data

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in civil engineering or a related technical discipline at an accredited college or university
  • Junior standing or higher is preferred
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of civil engineering principles, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout
  • Exposure to AutoCAD, with willingness to learn MicroStation or Civil 3D
  • Working proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for clearly defined assignments
  • Clear communicator who asks questions and responds constructively to feedback
  • Reliable and detail-oriented when completing assigned work under direct supervision and detailed instructions
  • Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment background check in accordance with NIST 800-171
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and able to provide required hiring documentation
  • Able to move across unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
