Assistant Editor, Scientific Journals — Wiley, Weinheim Hybrid

Assistant Editor responsible for peer review and editorial decisions across Wiley’s scientific research journals. Works with authors, reviewers, and international editorial teams.

Description

  • Manage peer review and editorial decisions from manuscript submission through acceptance and handoff to production
  • Review and triage newly submitted manuscripts
  • Identify and invite suitable reviewers
  • Evaluate reviewer reports and revised manuscripts
  • Determine outcomes including acceptance, referral, or transfer to an appropriate sister journal
  • Work closely with international colleagues as part of a global editorial team
  • Communicate online with authors, reviewers, and researchers worldwide
  • Develop journal content by commissioning invited articles and planning special issues or series
  • Participate in cross-functional and cross-departmental groups focused on improving workflows
  • Build practical experience across scholarly publishing

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, including solid-state physics, device physics, applied physics, condensed matter physics, quantum mechanics, computing, or a closely related discipline
  • Strong enthusiasm for scientific research and its communication
  • Willingness to expand knowledge across a broad range of research areas
  • Self-directed, diplomatic, and adaptable working style
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and communication abilities
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively on multiple products with colleagues across international offices
  • Postdoctoral experience is preferred
  • Basic familiarity with peer review is preferred
  • Experience using a manuscript management system such as Editorial Manager or ScholarOne is preferred
